School Shadowing

A Shadow is an ABA Therapist or Behavior Analyst who provides the level of support necessary for a child to be successful in a regular education setting.

The Shadow is an important part of your child’s therapy team as they understand his/her needs and have the skills to promote academic participation and social interactions. Shadows often consult with
teachers and may modify classwork as necessary.

A Shadow is not only skilled at providing the support a child needs, but they also step back when possible in order to promote independence (which systematically reduces the support needed over time). The ultimate goal is having every child fully participating in school without support.

Life Skills

Life skills are associated with managing and focusing on a better quality of life. They allow us
to live up to our full potential and are useful in all areas of our daily routine. Depending on the child, we may work on things such as learning to tie shoe laces, grocery shopping, credit card use, banking, cooking, swimming, driving, using a computer and so much more.

Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (or ABA Therapy) is the application of basic behavioral practices, positive reinforcement, teaching in small steps, prompting, and repeated practice to facilitate the development of language, social interactions, independent living skills, and
other aptitudes.
